Snowmass Ski Resorts, Colorado

Snowmass Ski Resort is located in the town of Snowmass Village near Aspen, Colorado. It is Aspen’s largest ski resort having  4,406 vertical feet and more than 3,332 acres of terrain.  The ski area is owned and operated by the Aspen Skiing Company as part of the Aspen/Snowmass complex. Snowmass is the largest of the four Aspen/Snowmass mountains. The mountain is known for its wide cruiser runs and extensive ski-in/ski-out lodging.

Not only is Snowmass Ski Resort famous for it’s family friendly ski atmosphere, it also contains several terrain parks, extensive extreme skiing terrain, mogul runs, and gladed terrain. Many professional skiers know that Snowmass has the most vertical feet of skiing terrain than  any ski area in the United States (when the Cirque poma is running). The Snowmass ski area opened 1967 with the help of hired Olympic medalist Stein Eriksen who directed the ski school. Besides experience as a skier and instructor, Stein Eriksen brought an aura of European glamor to the new resort attracting many new skiers to the area.

You can skii the Big Burn and Sheer Bliss at Snowmass while enjoying views of Aspen’s Maroon Bells. The scnerey is beautiful and is a must go to destination for any family looking for snow adventure. Snowmass is very popular for families that bring children for the ski programs and children’s ski lessons which are located at The Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center.

Restaurants like Gwyn’s High Alpine is a popular rest stop for hungry families while out on the trail as well as Elk Camp for burgers and even Sam’s Steakhouse for a steak or maybe even Lyn Brit Cabin for pancakes. Or you if you are further down the trail you can stop and eat at The Ullrhof for traditional American food. If you prefer Italian food you can go down further closer to Snowmass village at the Il Poggio.

Whatever your preference, there are many different choices available at Snowmass that will make you feel at home and even home away from home.

One of many places to stay in the Village at Snowmass is the family and pet friendly Viceroy Hotel, or Timberline Condominiums where you can book an apartment with several bedrooms and laundry service. There is the Laurelwood Hotels which is only a  2-minute walk from the nearest bus stop. It is know for being a relaxed condo hotel which offers awesome ski-in-ski-out access. Another family feature for the Laurelwood is that it’s only a 10 minute walk from the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center, so the kids can be only a few minutes from their rooms at the hotel.

There are many homes and lodges to choose from at the bottom of the trails beginning in Snowmass village which have multi-bedrooms for the large families or even smaller families. Some of the trails run right past the front doors of some lodges, which can make it very convenient for skiers and kids who reach the end of the trail on the way down the mountain.

Besides skiing on the slopes there is much to do at Snowmass Village like dog-sledding in the snow or snowmobiling or stoppping by Starbucks for a hot cup of coffee.

The second largest ski resort (Vail is largest) Snowmass SKi Resort is one of the best family ski resorts in America and is visited by tourists and celebrities alike as well as newlyweds and families. It can be the perfect ski destination for your winter vacation. All you have to do is get there.
